Community Engagement

 We often engage with community members to understand their concerns, needs, and aspirations. This involves holding meetings, surveys, and discussions to gather input from residents.

Social Services

Community organizations may provide or facilitate access to social services, such as food banks, housing assistance, childcare, and counseling, to help those in need.

Youth Programs

 We may offer programs and activities for young people, including after-school programs, sports, and educational initiatives, to promote youth development and engagement.

Community Events

 Hosting events like festivals, fairs, and cultural celebrations to bring the community together and foster a sense of belonging.

Environmental Initiatives

Promoting environmental awareness and sustainability through initiatives like clean-up campaigns, tree planting, and recycling programs.

Advocacy

Representing the interests of the community to local government and other organizations, advocating for policies and projects that benefit residents.

Volunteer Opportunities

 Encouraging community members to get involved by volunteering their time and skills to support various projects and activities.

Skill Building

Offering workshops and training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of community members, can help them improve their employment prospects.

Community Development

Working on projects to improve the physical infrastructure of the community, such as parks, public spaces, and housing.

Collaborating with other local organizations, businesses, and stakeholders to maximize resources and create a stronger community network.

ECO’s mission

Edlington Community Organisation (ECO) is a community charity based at Yorkshire Main  Community  Centre, Edlington. Our aim is to improve and regenerate Edlington and its surrounding areas to make it a better place to live for all generations present and yet to come, and as a charity, we thrive off community involvement and partnership working alongside various groups and businesses.

ECO was formed by a broad section of community representatives and residents in 2000 who wanted to make a difference and create a voice for the community. Originally based in a porta cabin at the former Stubbins Hill Community Centre, we moved to a community office on Main Avenue in the early 2000s and later relocated to Yorkshire Main Community  Centre in 2010 to serve our community in a more predominant location within Edlington, creating a central hub accessible to anyone.

We have a bank of support services and advisors who will always aim to point you in the right direction, if we can’t help most often we know who can.

ECO is managed by a volunteer board of trustees who either represent a community group or themselves as an individual resident of Edlington or Warmsworth and have a members list consisting of residents, groups, businesses and local service providers to form a network of support.

ECO has achieved almost 2 million pounds in funding and contracts to provide essential community services since its formation. This is a fantastic achievement for Edlington and we should be proud as an ex-mining community of the positive achievements and partnerships we have in our village.

We put the community at the heart of our delivery, ensuring that our decisions and solutions are not done to/imposed on them. We are inclusive and accessible to anyone and referrals for critical services can be made in person, via a group, church, school, statutory agency or even a concerned friend or family member. Edlington is a proud village and pride prevents people from accessing services so we feel by offering a range of varied scale support, from free of charge, a donation or fixed membership, we are catering for all financial statuses.

All of the above wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of our team, both paid and unpaid who give up thousands of hours to deliver projects and services for the benefit of Edlington and surrounding communities.
